Synching Nokia S60 with Thunderbird + Lightning / SunBird

To date there's no one-step solution to keep S60 smartphones synchronized with your Thunderbird's contacts and Lightning / Sunbird 's calendar. But I found some little tricks to realize exactly that and absolutely free (see below). Here's how.

Synchronizing Thunderbird's contacs

That's the easy part, since a nice guy did all the work for us. Just get the Noksync plugin for Thunderbird and install it: done!

Synchronizing Lightning / SunBird 's calendar

This requires a trick. Here's the procedure:

  • If you don't have a Google Calendar account, get one here.
  • Get and install Provider for Google Calendar extension. Now your Lightning / Sunbird calendar is synchronized with Google Calendar.
  • Subscribe to GooSync and configure automatically your smartphone through their SMS. With this service you can sync your mobile with your google calendar. See the trick?
All done! If you want, you can completely forget about Google Calendar. Just use GooSync from your smartphone and you'll get your mobile calendar synched with Thunderbird's calendar, even when you're far away from your PC! Isn't that cool?

Is it totally free?

Under likely conditions: YES!
First of all I assume you don't pay for the time you spend on the Internet from your PC. If you also have any free access from your mobile to the Internet then you pay nothing in the whole process.
Otherwise, you'll get charged for the few seconds you need on line with Goosync. Anyway, in this case you could find a solution to share the internet connection of your PC with your smartphone: there are different ways to do that, like exploiting its wireless connection or using GnuBox if it does not have one. Here's a guide to do that also on s60v3 phones, like Nokia 6110 Navigator (I did not test that). That done, the whole thing is again completely free!
